As a child of the 80s, I loved the Fighting Fantasy adventure gamebooks. The books are part story, part game, in which 'YOU are the hero!'
Armed with pencil and dice, you choose your path through the adventure, battling monsters on the way. The books were brought to life with fantastic illustrations by the likes of Russ Nicholson, Iain McCaig and Martin McKenna, which were a big influence on me. With the 35th anniversary of the first book, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, I couldn't resist paying tribute with a couple of my own illustrations.
I still have my old books and game logs. My kids have loved playing them too, which has been a real trip down memory lane. (Or should that be memory dungeon?) When I was fourteen, I even wrote my own adventure, 'The Lair of Gonrad' (Gonrad - Dragon - see what I did there?)
